"Necessities"

This story is the product of a writing exercise I completed for my Intro to Fiction Writing class last spring. The assignment was to write two characters, then show how those two characters perceive of one another.
Via Rox and Shiva, in this story, I aimed at precisely that. Each section is written with a limited third person point of view, and as such, the reader finds interiority and depth for each character, but also understands how they view one another--and what fuels that perspective. Their motivations for engagement with one another are vastly different, which fascinated me.
It was a a fun activity, and I am convinced this stereoscopic narrative will shape the format for my first novel.
